Nairn has sandy beaches beside the Moray Firth and to the south natural woodland with spectacular rivers. The sunny climate, with a rainfall similar to Paris, also means few midges. Dolphins swim close by and the beaches provide safe swimming. We believe that it is The Garden of Eden!

On the third Saturday of August the Highland Games has been a regular event since 1867, the largest free Games in Scotland. The town comes alive as Nairnites from far and wide converge on the town. With a grandstand view from the grassy banks surrounding the links you can watch Tossing the Caber, Throwing the Hammer, Tug-O-War and Highland Dancing. There is a fairground – The Showies – for young and old alike. A highlight is the massed pipe bands marching from the town centre to the links at the start of the games. http://www.nairnhighlandgames.co.uk

Snow in January! What’s New?

We had a mild and dry January until a week ago. This allowed the planting of a dozen fruit trees [six pears against south facing walls, four plums and two apple], and a large heather bed around the new lodge. Now we have just an inch of snow, beautiful sunny days, and chilly nights around -5C. Much warmer than Braemar at -14C! This is how beautiful it all looks.

Mandala Making

New Year's Day 2019

Thérèse sends her greetings of peace and healing out into the world in the form of a beach mandala. The old Norse god Aegir was on her side as he arranged low tide for mid afternoon. Thérèse constructed it to the east of the River Nairn, with the help of some hardy friends, in the face of a cold north wind. Started at 11am it took 4hrs to make and measured 15m across.
